Jim Martin of M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust named 2010 Small Foundation Manager of the Year!

Jim Martin, Chief Investment Officer of the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust named 2010 Small Foundation Manager of the Year by Institutional Investor

Vancouver, Wash. –  Jim Martin, Chief Investment Officer of the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, has been named 2010 Small Foundation (under one billion in assets) Manager of the Year by Institutional Investor.  The international award recognizes U.S. institutional investors whose innovative strategies and fiduciary savvy resulted in impressive returns for their organizations. Award winners, chosen by the magazine’s editorial board, are individuals who have stood out in the eyes of the investor community for their exceptional performance, risk management, and service.

Mr. Martin attributes the investment performance at the Murdock Trust to a “team effort.” “I am blessed to work with great Trustees who are in it for the long run and have the courage to think outside the box.  I am supported by a dedicated and talented staff.”  Martin has been with the Murdock Trust for more than 20 years.

“We were not surprised by the award recognition and are delighted to celebrate the award with Jim!” says Steve Moore, Executive Director of the Murdock Trust.  “Jim Martin is a great team player and a person who is actively involved in generously sharing his time, experience, and resources to non-profit groups and the philanthropic community.” Upon learning of the award, Martin was quick to add, “I would be remiss not to recognize the unbelievable contribution each of our investment managers has made to our success.  They have put up with our broad mandates, focus on total return, and risk bucket approach to asset allocation.  Any recognition I receive belongs to the Trustees, staff, and managers alike.” He thanked fund managers for “doing the tough part and delivering the results which have enabled us to enhance our ability to serve non-profit organizations in the Northwest and fulfill the mission of the Trust.”

Institutional Investor is among the world’s foremost financial publications with ground-breaking journalism and incisive writing that provides “must read” intelligence for a global audience.  This award-winning magazine is essential reading for the world’s leading financiers, corporate executives, and government officials. The award presentation will be Monday, May 17, in New York, New York.
