Invitation from Northweat Health Foundation
Dear GOSW members,
On Tuesday, November 3 from noon-1:30PM, Northwest Health Foundation will host an information session about the January 26, 2010 special election ballot measures 66 and 67.
Representatives from the coalitions that support and oppose these initiatives will present their view on this election.
Steve Novick will present on behalf of Defend Oregon, and Pat McCormick will present on behalf of Oregonians Against Job-Killing Taxes.
Some background: During the 2009 session, the Oregon Legislature outlined changes in state tax law in an effort to raise $733 million for the next two years. The increases affect individuals with taxable income above $125,000, and households above $250,000. Also a corporate tax increase would elevate the $10 minimum tax to a sliding scale that ranges between $150 and $100,000, depending on annual sales. The measure also sets new corporate tax rates that primarily affect those businesses with the largest in-state sales. According to the nonpartisan Legislative Revenue Office, around five percent of businesses would pay the higher rate next year.
Because this election may impact a variety of health and social service agencies, as well as the business community, we believe this is an important issue to follow, and possibly become involved.
If you would like to join us, please RSVP to Leigh Ann Mooring at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or 503.220.1955 by the end of the day on Friday, October 30. A light lunch will be served.
